Material Story

Sourced from the ancient volcanic plains of the Deccan Plateau, our basalt is a dense, near-black stone with a strikingly fine and even grain that polishes to a deep, glassy surface. It is equally powerful in its natural, rough-hewn state, raw, elemental, and quietly authoritative. Basalt is our material of choice for minimal contemporary pieces: wall fountains where a sheet of water runs over pure dark stone, monolithic sculptures that need no ornament, and planters where the drama comes from material alone.

Colour & Natural Variation

The base colour moves through muted brick red, into earthy terracotta, and on to a deeper rusty red. Basalt carries relatively low colour variation, though subtle tonal shifts, natural grains, bedding marks and occasional mineral variation should be expected from piece to piece.
